Know, Respect, and Discipline
Your EGO.
Is it running your show, creating interference and problems for you, or, contributing its best by accepting a position as part of your Identity Team?
Rules, Expectations, Assumptions --- of Your Ego:
- Impulsiveness: short-term participation with high emotional involvement;
- Decision reactivity: Fight, Flight, or Fright to a perceived threat;
- Control: always wants acknowledgement, recognition, acceptance, authority;
- Identity is tied to material worth: territory, possessions, status, affiliation;
- Sexual opportunities are exciting, fun, energizing, co-dependent, sensual;
- Disappointments are perceived as the responsibility and creation of others;
- Simplicity rules: right or wrong, good or bad, with me or against me.
Potential Benefits, (from Dinosaur Brains, by Albert J. Bernstein):
- ... predictable, spontaneous, dependable;
- ... can be fun, exciting, elating, infatuating;
- ... can energize, arouse, and stimulate enthusiasm;
- ... offers nonstop action, no ambiguity, no wasted effort;
- ... supplies a lot of force and conviction, motivation;
- ... enjoys feelings of affiliation, loyalty, and pride;
- ... is very powerful.
Frequent Errors, (from Dinosaur Brains, by Albert J. Bernstein):
- ... can't tolerate waiting, boredom, repetition, >> no patience or planning;
- ... self-centered, only focus is one's own needs, >> no empathy, compromise;
- ... cannot tell reality from fantasy, attracted to imagination grown from desire;
- ... over-competitiveness >> overly sensitive & defensive & abrasive;
- ... always wants to do the easiest and least frightening stuff first;
- ... makes no distinction between the name of an object and the object;
- ... always wants what is attractive and perceived to be available;
- ... often made destructive by toxic shame >> perfectionism, co-dependencies;
- ... doesn't want to learn >> assumes it knows enough, everything;
- ... supports prejudice, intolerance, racism >> genocide, and wars;
