1. What is an Anchor?
Symbols connected to images, words, experiences, and/or actions.
That is what thought anchors are.
Our Reptilian Structure uses anchors as memory enhancers.
We connect patterns of behavior and action with symbols.
We LEARN most of our cultural behaviors with symbols.
Rote learning, repetition, places and strengthens these anchors.
Rationalization and imprinted conscience add motivation to these.
A very difficult discernment that thoughtful children make is to recognize that simply because we understand a concept does not mean that we will be able to recall it when we want to, or are asked to. Intellectually gifted persons who can make and accept rationalizations easily can appear stupid, ignorant, lazy, distracted, hyperactive, and without attention span if they fail to accept this NORMAL working of the mind.
2. Why anchors are important.
What happens when a person is shown how to do something, they acknowledge that they understand, yet minutes later, they cannot repeat what they have understood earlier? Depending on the characteristics of the mentor or teacher, they may become or feel confusion, shame/embarrassment, defensiveness, anger, stimulation, acceptance, denial, fear.
The response is highly determined by the calm/intensity and compassion/authoritarianism of the instructor. Often, unless we have a Personality Strength of Individuality/Independence, and most of us do not, we learn by accepting the demands of the authority in an effort to avoid penalty. The greater the fear of exclusion component in the style of teaching, the greater is the outcome for us to slide into denial. In denial we stop questioning and simply accept. The response, often to become a reaction later, can determine most of the choices for our Present and Future.
Persons who want to find unusual answers cannot be in Denial.
They must be willing to be creative, innovative, practical, patient, open-minded, exploring, risk-oriented, and hopeful. None of these traits are sincerely encouraged within any major human culture or religion. The person with CFS-ME, or other difficult to diagnose and treat illness conditions, will usually live a life of terror and frustration, if they choose to Wait until someone else cures them. This lifestyle can become shorter and change to a happier and more fulfilling one faster, if Personalized answers are found. Unusual answers are those found to questions that have yet to be answered within a culture, or, answers that may exist yet currently the seeking person is unaware of.
Anchors intensify our responses, memories, outcomes.
They can bring emotions into a reality for us quickly.
These emotions can bring us terror or peace, happiness or fear.
Anchors make a Choice automatically activated as a behavior.
This behavior may be a simple reaction, a planned response, or a foundation for a new trigger. Anchors can save us time, increase the efficiency and accuracy of a skill we have, force us to sabotage our efforts, or, allow us to be easily deceived and manipulated by others. IF we know about them and understand them, we can make more constructive uses of them, and lessen their destructive influence on us. Ignoring them will not make them go away. Wanting them will not make them materialise. WE must act, by choice, instinct, force to bring them into existence and to strengthen them.
3. The Temperature of Anchors.
How available and forceful are our anchors?
By using anchors we can Chose to bring experiences, patterns of attitude and behavior, and beliefs into action. If the anchors we have have been set without choice or awareness, they can control and sabotage us, effectively making us into living robots under the control of other people, predictable and planned signals, or, randomly occurring triggers.
An example of a spontaneous anchor.
I devised my own scientific form of sleep deprivation test during my early teens while attending secondary school. I stayed awake for as many days as possible and made notes of the changes in my awareness, feelings, physical symptoms, diet. There were many times when tiredness made staying alert, paying attention, and learning more difficult than usual. I was attending classes at the time, riding a bus, doing homework, practicing yoga, and doing manual labor on a mixed use farm. Communication with others became increasingly difficult. After 5 days (120 hours) without sleep, I stopped the experiment because I was beginning to experience muscle twitching which made some activities unsafe and was attracting the attention of others. There were no significant movements or words or beliefs mentioned at any time during this period. Except for the timely note taking and the lack of sleep, everything else was routine. No anchor was developed during this period. There have been none evident in the almost 50 years since.
Periods of long work and driving a car became a regular experience for me during my late 20s and early 30s. I was installing, maintaining, and repairing mini-computers. The customers who had them were often located, in my region, at a distance of hours of driving from my office and from each other. Most were in remote small towns and there were few business in competition with each other. Many were accountancy, municipal, or retail businesses which were early adopters of the technology in their locale. Sometimes, after a particularly long day of 12 to 16 hours on the job, I would be driving home, in the dark, with almost no traffic, through districts with no or little radio reception. Compact discs did not exist. Cassette players for cars were novel. Largely the drive would be quiet. Tiredness, solitude, quiet, and a steady activity (driving) encourage many people to yawn and/or sigh. The activity of sighing induce a self-hypnotic state of calm. In such a state, we find it easy to lapse into deep sleep.
I caught myself several times almost asleep while driving.
This was NOT a gradual increased tiredness with increased yawning followed by increased lapses of attention and vision. This was at a time with almost no yawning. It was like falling into a dark pit. I was able to stop the fall and take actions, with other common anchors, to recover alertness. By WHY was it happening. Being more self aware of the drive and my states and actions, I quickly discovered that the ONLY time this near blackout happened was when I took 3 deep breathes together and released them slowly. I found that at ANY time of the day, in ANY environment, whether fully rested or not, I could put myself to sleep in 3 or 4 seconds by, taking 3 deep slow release breaths, and, accepting the relaxation slide. Now I had to be careful that this anchor was NOT triggered when I did not want it. Often people with CFS-ME sign in frustration, though seldom in this repetitive and metered way. I had inadvertently activated this anchor during ONE of my most tired, long drives home, at no particular time of the day.
To set your own anchor is quite simple.

Plan it.
What do you want for an outcome?
When do you want it to occur?
What are possible triggers for the anchor?

Decide WHAT you want the automatic Result to be.
Maturity, self-awareness, and spiritual strength are Huge Benefits here.
If you make an anchor for something selfish regarding other people, you risk penalty and self-sabotage.

Select some word, gesture, action, or touch to anchor the result.
This can be how you touch 2 fingers together, a part of your body you touch, ..
Ensure that this Choice of trigger is NOT common in your daily habits, business or other environments. Would you really want it activated when it was irrelevant, possibly dangerous, unacceptable to others? Will YOU have complete control over it? When will other people be able to unintentionally set off your trigger/anchor and what outcome can be expected?

Practice.
Recall the experience or feeling that you want to express.
Touch your trigger point, say your key word, bring 2 fingers together, tap yourself in a specific location, or, some other neurophysical or neurolinguistic combination. This will set the association for your Reptilian Structure. The more you practice this anchored sequence, without distraction, the faster (more automatic) and more intense (strong) it will become. You can do this outwardly, with motions, or, inwardly (often less effective) with self-hypnotic focused imagination.

Evaluate.
If we have had poor planning, we may find that other factors come to our awareness as we use the new shortcut. It may be triggered, by us or by others, more often than we would chose. It may be too comprehensive and complete something we would prefer to be done in stages, with conscious Choice for each stage. It may be something we thought we wanted, yet now have changed our attitude or desire for it. If all is as we would like it to remain, we need only continue to practice and use. IF, the result is NOT something positive, it is best that we determine this as soon as possible, stop the Intense Imprinting, and possibly do our best to undo the association. This is usually done by overlaying the first with a second, or, conveying to our Reptilian Structure that we want it to release this association.

Anchors can make our lives simpler, and, more complex.
They are tools which used constructively will increase health & happiness.
Used destructively, they can sabotage our intentions and result in penalties and abuses.
4. Negative anchors, a common list.
Why Despair and encourage Depression ?
There are many experiences and exposures which can encourage our Reptilian Structure to develop energy block reactions in an effort to protect us. Many times, the difference between these instances becoming an energy block addiction or a learning experience will depend upon what we expect, and how our mentors frame the relevancy of it for us. If we know these instances are likely to be significant, we have the Choice to moderate IF and HOW our response will influence our future and those we interact with.
- threatened by a physically larger person
- overhearing gossip about yourself
- knowing that you have made another error
- being yelled at by a significant person
- after being rammed by another car
- suddenly confronted by (a wild animal)
- falling off of (something high)
- a broken bone (leg/arm)
- severe back pain
- Cold water
- shrill noise
- Penalty

Religion, joining in for social acceptance.
- terrorism
- losing recall memory
- increasing brain fog
- severe allergies
- unexpected surprise

These anchors are Choices to React rather than Respond.
If this is me, it is my Future!
Negative anchors, limit our options and emphasize our dependency. THEY Control our lives and how we influence others and the whole. They make the Future predictable, and, never improving. They encourage us to sabotage our efforts and our life by ignoring options which could make our life, and the lives of others happier and more spiritual.
In the short-term, and in political instances of urgency, these options encourage uniformity of attitude, behavior, action. They permit the Power of the individual to be accumulated into what is often a defensive reaction. These actions serve political peace, order, stability. Like the settings on a cooking range, the Operator/leader changes the settings. Those setting remain High or Low or Medium for as long as the Leader decides. The range is the Source of the Power. The Leader determines WHY, WHERE, HOW and WHEN that power will be used. Are you the range, or, the operator?
5. Positive Anchors, a starter list.
Choose to be ALIVE and Stimulated.
I can recall Peace and Joy, anew!
I can encourage and be hopeful of this repeating in my present and Future. I can work towards creating the environment and opportunities which enabled these to happen. Few will happen if I DO nothing. More will happen if I work with other people who can facilitate them, complete them, share in them, benefit from them.

- hugging feelings towards (a person) when they congratulate me.
- relaxing/enjoyable time sipping a coffee in (a special restaurant)
- being balanced/aligned after a (chiropractic) treatment.
- reverence during/after (an activity)
- cabin or cottage in (a vacation location)

- swimming for leisure

- computer desktop pictures/wallpaper
- (delightful) cafe, surroundings/colors
- (landscape/modern/cubism ..) paintings

- a caramel macchiato (coffee)
- watching/enjoying (a favorite TV series)
- listening to (a style of music)
- time spent with (person, cat, dog, other pet)
- skimming across the water in a (sailboat/motorboat/zodiac, other)
- Spirituality, spiritual awareness & strength
- helping others while helping oneself
- new discoveries and awareness
- a celebration, expression of Joy
- [add your own favorites/remove irrelevant]
These anchors are Choices to Respond rather than React.
If this is me, it is my favorable Past!
Positive anchors, expand our options and emphasize our personal responsibility. WE Control our lives and how we influence others and the whole. We make the Future capable of improvement, and, always a Choice. They encourage us to maximize our efforts and our life by looking for options which could make our life, and the lives of others happier and more spiritual.
In the short-term, and in personal instances of desire, these options encourage Relevancy of attitude, behavior, action. They permit the Power of the individual to be expressed into what is often a socially responsible aggressive action. These actions serve political peace, order, stability by empowering the individual and the positive nature of their contribution. Like the Cook, the individual makes the changes in the recipe to optimize the resources available, the benefit to all involved, including, the healthfulness. The Cook determines the ingredients, yet, can consult references, mentors, and the staff and guests. The Cook is the Source of the Power of Choice. The Cook determines WHY, WHERE, HOW and WHEN that Choice will be used. Are you a Cook, or, a range?
6. Maintaining your Focus: Relevancy.
YOU are a Part of the World.
If YOU are all of the world to you, you have a very small reality.
You have the capacity to Join In and become part of a Huge World.
That world will continue to grow as you remain open to learning and appreciating what there is around you, and, at a distance. You CAN learn from the experiences and efforts of others. This learning can be increased in its Relevancy by your awareness of those frequent factors which can deceive and manipulate you. Your efficiency at obtaining new information can be increased by the following:
