Don't cherish the Past and seek to repeat it. The truth is: If you try to regain and repeat the Past, you may also regain CFS-ME in some form new to you. CHOOSE to RECOVER over choosing to regain a life which is largely gone. Past, and, Present.
If you are like many persons with CFS-ME, some of the following will define the CHANGE.
- Before, you could be physically active all day;
now, getting out of bed is a feat!
- Before, you ate gourmet meals and went to social events;
now, snacks in solitude!
- Before, you were tops and in demand in your career;
now, you can't keep a job!
- Before, others sought to be with you;
now, they treat you like a reject!
- Before, you loved and were loved, intimately;
now, what is intimacy?
Remember the example of the Phoenix!
There are Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Egyptian, and Native American counterparts of the Phoenix.
(Fêng-Huang, Ho-oo, Firebird, Benu, and Yel respectively). All of these birds are identified with the sun. Records of the inspiring story date back centuries B.C. Many variations developed locally, perhaps independently.
The Phoenix was a beautiful and large bird.
Every morning it introduced peace and beauty to begin the day with its song and color.
It was so gentle, in spite of its large size, that it crushed nothing when it landed.
It was considered to symbolize honesty, obedience, fidelity, prosperity, and immortality.
The Phoenix could live a long life by integrating a balance of rest and action into its life. If ever it became ill or injured, the Phoenix could heal itself. For others, it symbolized the ability to bring an end to pain and suffering. It liked independence, when it came time for it to die, it prepared its own funeral pyre. It died and was burned to ashes. From these ashes, like the sun rising above the horizon each morning, it arose as a new, young, and, healthy bird .. to begin life anew.
YOU have a unique Basic Personality a unique Personal Spirit, and, a genetic and cultural history ... together with a Mission or Purpose of some way in which YOU can contribute in positive ways to the happiness and prosperity of the world. As long as you are alive, and, make a Choice to ask God for the answers you require to have the best life possible for you, and to Recover, the possibility is high that you will receive and answers you need, and, the opportunity.
2. The importance of staying Real
If we live in the Past, we repeat the Past.
We can do better!
We have learned a lot of skills since birth.
We have participated in many celebrations and activities.
We had to be realistic, or, invite obvious failure & penalty.
Being realistic means doing your best with what you have, to gain as much of what you want, prefer, enjoy, and hope for ... as is possible.
Expect Better, Do Better, Receive Better.
What you have found on many of the other pages on Earthtym.net are ways to interact and participate with yourself, with God, and with others in such ways that you are always building towards something, rather than sabotaging your efforts and losing your rewards. Building Rewards is a plus you can count on. Here are some points to check each day.
- How many times have I Asked God for help, today?
- Have I thanked God for Grace and Love today?
- Have I reviewed my Life-I-Love listing?
- Which spiritual readings have I used today?
- Can I see and read today? Not everyone can.
- Do I have clean water to drink today, to cook with, and bathe in?
- Am I able to eat something nutritious today?
- Did I set my alarm for consistent wake-up?
- Am I focused on maintaining Empowering Beliefs?
- I have imperfect health care support.
Many people have no access to any.
- How many people have I encouraged today?
- Am I noting my Passive & Active language use?
- Is my planning for Tests up to date?
- Which Faces of Joy have I experienced recently?
- Have I finished my significant grieving?
- Have I noted/listened to some humor?
- I have access to many clear Spiritual Resources.
Many other people do not.
- What is a positive about the weather today?
Effectiveness and Efficiency will get you to Recovery.
If you don't have many TOOLS, you won't build very far. You will also be without some of the Tools to do the job in the best way you can. That, will mean more wasted time and resources, and a later recovery. You have many tools on this site to assist you. Are you going to use them, or, wait for someone else to rescue you? You don't need a rescue! You need a Recovery. Using Tools that have frequently assisted others will save you the making of many mistakes and missing of real opportunities .. which may not be available for some time.
Are you going to do it all yourself ?
You may have maintained control of most things in the past by doing them to your own standard and in your own time. Doing that now is to miss appointments, irritate those who could be assisting you, encourage others to do a lower quality job, or, tell you whatever they believe you want to hear. Some parts of your recovery you will find it necessary, for cost, access, or timeliness ... to do, or learn to do, yourself. Yet, most things you will have an option of Asking others to help, and/or, accepting the help they offer.
We take more Risks and flirt with the fantasies of the un-real when we're depressed or experiencing an emotionally upsetting or difficult time like the end of a relationship we may take more risks. When someone acquires CFS-ME, they often end, or have ended MANY relationships: business, social, intimate, career, exercise, diet. When we feel bad about ourselves who we are or how we look we may worry less about our health. When we are feeling vulnerable, our desire to connect or our fear of rejection may lead us to forget that we deserve respect, protection, and good health.
3. Overwhelm !
People with CFS-ME and others risk their health through unrealistic expectations.
These sudden open pitfalls appearing before us are a signal that we are failing to balance our REAL capabilities with the expectations and demands we and others have of us. While this can happen to people who are passive, ritualistic, and in denial, it seldom does. It is experienced much more often by persons who have developed a wide range of skills and abilities, acquired the resources to effect these activities, and, have chosen to join in with others through the offering of their services. Fundamentally, it is a desire to be accepted and included by others, or, NOT to be excluded and abandoned.
When OUR world crumbles, we risk falling into overwhelm.
As long as much of what we are working with is within OUR Control, our schedule of activities and commitments runs on time and we receive the self-pleasure of fulfillment and the social acknowledgement of appreciation, value, and confidence. This perfect world WILL begin to crumble if one or both of our personal world and the social/business/religious worlds start to experience changes. The more we depend upon others to complete what WE expect from them, the more certain that world will eventually fail to remain on time. The more we depend upon ourselves for continual superlative performance, the less prepared we will be for the time when our body or mind demands a rest.
Grieving is part of Recovery.
Many people with chronic illnesses or CFS-ME do not grieve fully. Some do not grieve at all. Grieving for us is NOT a one time event. It is a form of Updating our history and resetting our Internal baseline from which we will be moving forward. If we have just recovered from a Part of the Package of illnesses we have, it is time for celebration of a success. For us, that celebration is best to be guarded and toned down a Little, unless, we are certain that we have passed a significant turning point on the way to recovery. We can confirm that if we have previously determined which illness conditions are part of OUR Package and can confirm that the worst are out of the way.

If you know where you are,
It is much easier to know Where you are heading.
IF you want to Recover from CFS-ME or any other multiple illness condition, the degree to which you have the WILL and the stamina is the degree to which you may inadvertently invite the sabotaging experience of Overwhelm. To the degree that you have limited Resources or have many more destructive attitude influences than positive ones in your environment, the more easily it will be to invite Overwhelm. You cannot cope intelligently with what you do not understand. You can adopt constructive rituals that will help. The weakness in that approach is that you may end up applying those rituals when it is not relevant. That can produce no results, or worse, it can produce destructive ones ... when you are most seeking a Recovery. Let's take a closer look at what Overwhelm is.
4. What it is ?
Overwhelm is
a mental state of confusion, anxiety, and urgency.
It is signaled by our going into an action state of panic, brain fog, depression, or, fear cascade. It is an awareness that there are many activities that we BELIEVE we should be doing and completing together with the awareness and concern that the number of activities, done with the quality --- which demands minimum standards of attention and time --- we define ourselves by, exceeds the time available. Everything on our mental list seems to be of nearly equal benefit or demand. Taking something off the list, suggests in the least, that we will either be letting someone important to us down (possibly including ourselves), failing to fulfill a promise, risking being assessed as being insincere, or, incompetent, or, untrustworthy.
Other words used for "overwhelmed" include:
senior's moment, overpowered in thought or feeling, drowning, flooded, inundated, swamped, blanked.
When you have pushed yourself into DEMAND overload, take a moment and actually make a list of all that you are thinking about. How many of these expectations are going to only be benefited by yourself? Are they really what YOU want, or, are they Shoulds, or Promises, or Expectations (Should we hold for ourselves)? It is Very Important for us to know which of these FOUR categories our motivating factors rest in. If we are unaware of the proportions of these and unaware of the realities of these, we have little choice over selecting what we Want to be a priority. As long as everything has an equal priority, Everything is High Priority, or, we don't think about it.
We are also taking
Responsibility for each motivating factor.
It is revealing to know if the responsibilities we are assuming are ours personally, are borrowed from others (co-dependency), are shared with others (interdependency), have been dumped on us (abuse), or stolen from others (dependency).
Often with overwhelm comes
a sense of "stuckness" and low motivation.
This is a combination of the reality that recognizable and stable functional improvements are few and often seem distant during this form of recovery. Sometimes, the indicators we would most like to re attain are the most distant. Running a marathon may be where we WERE. Participating in daily physical intimacy may be a highly rewarding experience in the retreating Past. Working 14 hours without a break on something of passionate interest to us, may have been a frequent routine. Now, we can scarcely walk, cannot become sexually aroused, and it tires us out just to think about the rising developments in our passionate issues. Reflecting back on our achievements and pleasures will only remind us of what we don't have.
Suspending our Past Roles is one of the most difficult tasks.
It is easier, and destructive, to consider this Choice as one of abandoning, cutting away, forgetting, denying, condemning, giving up, sacrificing, releasing, or, destroying. We have often tied our identity as a person to these activities. To do the destructive actions is to destroy, ourselves! THAT would be depressing, and libido destroying. Rather, we are affirming that we will REGAIN those libido-centered activities only by being wise enough to utilize what life force we have remaining to rebuild the BASICS of our immunity and elemental organ functions. Only then, can our more complex and consciously rewarding activities return as normal, non distressing extensions of our Life.
"Suspending" means setting aside; not ending.
Suspending is not abandoning, for it mandates that there is something which can be reactivated, by choice, when the time is more constructive. This is also why the terms "cutting away", "denying", and "releasing", have no relevancy. Forgetting suggests that an activity we have experienced as central to our identity will now mean nothing! How would this be possible? To condemn is to suggest that what was done in the Past was and is the cause of one's CFS-ME. Rationally, this easy association will be made by us or others at some point. Yet, the more wise we become about CFS-Me, the more it becomes obvious that these were NOT causes. "Giving up" or "sacrificing" is often associated with the sense of never returning. With "suspend", we can CHOOSE to reactivate!
5. Where it comes from.
An experience of Overwhelm may arise from too many
activating and alerting physical and/or mental and/or emotional forms of stimuli.
Overwhelm presenting factors include:
- Acute anxiety: nervous wakefulness, busy excitability, extreme restlessness
- Acute (bacterial) nephritis
- Acute (bacterial) peritonitis, ovaritis, prostatitis, ..
- Acute cold: the coryza being particularly marked
- Acute cough: spasmodic cough and cough from reflex irritation
- Acute parasitic infections/toxicities leading to tendon injury
- Acute social fears, such as public speaking, dating, interviews, ...
- Acute symptoms (pain) of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
- Acute viral attacks
- Chronic, overloaded fungal presence
- Chronic tension (fear/frustration) of unstriped muscular fiber
- Chronic terror through projection of disaster potentials
- Excessive use of alcohol, caffeine, or other social drugs
- Excessive use of physical excitants:
---- heat, adrenaline, electricity, pain, aphrodisiacs
- Fevers: of all kinds, at any stage
- Inflammations: acute cerebral, spinal, cerebro-spinal, or meningeal
- Labor (birthing) which is extended and painful
- Spasmodic pain arising from acute tension in spine, bladder, ...
Overwhelm is nerve excited muscle tension, which restricts blood flow and increases lymph toxicity. It has the components of acute nerve excitation resulting in constant inflammation (irritation) of muscle cells, and, one's circulation, and, respiration systems.
What sets you up for Overwhelm?
Overwhelm occurs more easily when a number of the following factors are together:
- Over-Confidence in self outweighs trust in others.
- Rigidity of Values/Beliefs makes alternate solutions incomprehensible.
- Commitments are becoming too numerous and in conflict.
- Need for acceptance demands perfectionism & professionalism.
- Resources are becoming limited or insufficient (money, time, energy, ..)
- Self-awareness is lost in a Reality only concerned with Others.
- Fear of LOSS (Failure) or Fear of REJECTION (Penalty) are being felt.
- Over-mothering protectionism and taking responsibility for others.
- A tendency to self obsession and over-sensitivity and need for love.
- A distrust of and impatience towards others: I have to do it myself!
HOW do we allow Overwhelm to happen?
- Over-committment: too many promises, debts, contracts.
- Distraction: prolongation on what we do want to do.
- Procrastination: hesitation on what we don't want to do.
- Co-dependency: expectation of reward for sacrifice.
- Dependency: expectation of penalty for non-performance.
- Control: inability to delegate; distrust of others.
- Oversensitivity: all options are equally pain or reward.
- Masochistic attitude: if correct, it must be (made) difficult.
- Passivity: Fear of expected penalties, disapproval by others.
- Idealism: a necessity for everything to be complete/finished.
The Overwhelm condition is like CFS-ME.
While 10 or more "weaknesses" (illnesses) can contribute to an experience of Overwhelm (CFS-ME), in reality, a person will rarely have all present in any one experience and may precipitate such an experience with as few as 3 of the above, or, as many as 7. That means that we may experience Overwhelm from ANY of MANY combinations of the above 10 weaknesses in discernment and coping.
The ONLY way to be confident of hardly ever experiencing a state of Overwhelm is to build personal strengths in each area, and, find a social, work, intimacy, and political environment in which these strengths would never be intensely challenged continuously for a long duration. You can minimize your exposure, yet you must be prepared to be humble to accept that no human is so perfect as to be able to cope perfectly throughout their lives if they are interacting with other people.
Unstriped muscular fiber is found in the liver and its ducts; in the kidneys and the ureter, the bladder and the urethra, on the womb and ovaries, and, in the heart.
6. Remedies for it.
The GREATEST strength can come from acceptance of Reality.
Continuing to deny that you are as ill as you are, because of fear, pride, passivity, or confusion .. will PREVENT your recovery. Unless you are one of a very small group, you will not recover spontaneously, and stay recovered, because you have done nothing different than in your past. Miracles are not the result of laziness, ignorance, or force. They are not magic. They ARE the result of taking Action as an extension of the Faith of Confidence, often assisted by the relevancy of accurate Spiritual Guidance, accurate research, and the sincere encouragement of others.
Important!
A person with CFS-ME has an Opportunity to become more self-aware, more self-accepting, more humble, more spiritual .. than they were earlier. IF they live, some of this will happen in stages over a period of time longer than they would like. This means: You WILL grow, even if you fight it. By accepting this time as an opportunity, you can focus on the Growth, and less on the Survival. It will be the Growth which will MAINTAIN your recovery. If you are focusing on the Growth, you will be less compulsive about trying to regain the Past in terms of relationships, material assets, Income, security, social involvement, personal ability. You did not become ill with multiple diseases because you were Weak! You arrived at CFS-ME by being strong. NOW is the time to transmute that strength into POWER.

These can be based on attitude change, activity modification, task sharing, responsible assertiveness in communication, increased humility, self-awareness and self-acceptance. 7. Protection from Overwhelm.
Skill-building, self-awareness, and, compassion are the primary ways of protecting ourselves from the failure indicator of an experience of Overwhelm. HOW can we minimize OUR number and intensity of Overwhelm experiences?
- Committment: know and accept your performance limits.
- Assignment: set involvement durations for activities you like.
- Assertiveness: say "yes" and Do it; say "No" and leave it.
- Inter-dependency: verbally contract to trade talents with others.
- Exclusion: withdraw from relationships which are abusive.
- Forgiveness: allow others to make mistakes and learn.
- Self-sufficiency: be a source of Joy for yourself; appreciate others, not need.
- Self-acceptance: rejoice in your talents; avoid your downfalls.
- Activity: Confidence in possible rewards, openness to joining in.

Balance is doing enough of what YOU enjoy in life so that you can be in a state of Calm, Alertness, and Enthusiasm when interacting with others. The more you allow YOUR life to bend beyond Balance, the more your risk enabling it to be broken. Overwhelm is the Caution signal before more destructive events and experiences happen.
When you are putting Balance into YOUR Life, you will be including these:

First Impressions.
Most doctors and health facilitators know nothing about the scientific realities of CFS-ME and even less (if that is possible) about the experience. It is not for you to try and convince them of an alternate reality. You are weak, tired, and depressed. The balance you can strike is to be that, yet, press forward calmly with your points written and your references available to leave, if THEY desire.

Respect returns respect.
Expect your facilitators to be busy with their practices and occupied in living their own lives with their family and friends. The less you expect, the more you may receive. Don't rehash the errors of your past doctors or the ignorance of THEIR professional community. Don't repel them with your fatigue, your distrust, your despair, and your frustration. Their job is to provide answers. Help them to do that within THEIR framework. If their framework is too small or too rigid, ask for, or find, an alternative. You don't own them.

Everyone is a somebody.
Yes, you will mess up. We are not at our best when we are 10% conscious! Quieten. Reflect. Regroup. Prepare. Apologise. Restart. Define. Propose. Request. Listen. Respond. Don't make it complicated with YOUR fears, desires, beliefs, expectations. Every person is a present. Not all presents are liked or helpful. But most can be.

Nothing is Certain forever.
Throughout the Recoveries of myself and my wife, there were many changes in option availability and awareness. Some of the most impactful Recovery options were not available anywhere in the world during the first 3 years of our CFS-ME. Others were available at great distances and only became available, briefly, to us, after 5 years. Many others were of great benefit in the hands of skilled and inspired therapists. They were not the most certified. They were not the most well known. They sometimes were people we encouraged. They always were people who cared. Some we could only benefit from for a short period, or, periodically. The same was true for the quality and availability of some supplements, herbals, homeopathic remedies, and, foods. What is today, may not be tomorrow.

YOU are NOT the World!
If you know where you are going and have a good sense of how to get there, that awareness will keep you from turning around in defeat and despair. Most people with CFS-ME do not have the skills or passion to use the little energy and time they have to do the research to find the answers which are in this work. Most do not have the financial resources and the family or other support to be able to get to and use some of the options which would be most positive in impact for them. And, very few have the Spiritual Guidance or the muscle testing ability to determine WHEN, with WHOM, WHAT, and How Often an option may be Best for THEM. Without that efficiency and effectiveness, Recovery is threatened for many. Now, you have resources, options, and coaching. You will find the Worth of those beyond all cost. The life you save, may be your own.
