Chinese Medicine ... for Total Health

Tom Williams (1995) provides an understanding of the Kidney Meridian energy:

  • The Kidneys are viewed as the root of the Yin and Yang energy in the body, and by implication, all other organs.

  • Jing, which is usually translated as Essence ... can be considered the underpinning of all aspects of organic life. If Jing is plentiful there will be a strong life. force and the organism will be healthy and radiant, whereas when Jing is lacking the life force will be weak and the organism will be susceptible to disease and disorders.

  • Qi (energy) is responsible for the ongoing day-to-day movements of the body, whereas Jing can be considered to be associated with slow developmental changes that characterize the organism's growth from a foetus through life and ultimately to old age and death.

  • Chinese medicine closely associates Jing with the function of the Kidneys ...

  • Jing determines our constitutional strength ...
When Kidney Jing is impaired in any way --- often for constitutional reasons --- then this can lead to
    • retarded growth,
    • learning difficulties,
    • infertility,
    • sexual disorders, and
    • premature senility.

  • Kidney Jing is responsible for the production of Marrow ... the essential element of bone, bone marrow, the spinal cord and brain structure. Thus, healthy Kidney Jing will result in strong bones and teeth and efficient brain function.

If Marrow production is impaired in any way then this may result in a whole variety of problems, including tinnitis, blurred vision, impaired thinking and aching low back. Marrow also has a role in manufacturing Blood, so impaired Kidney function can also lead to Blood deficiency.

  • The Kidneys Maintain the Gate of Vitality (Fire of Mingmen).
In Chinese medicine, the Mingmen Fire is the source of all heat in the body. The maintenance of this essential Fire represents the Yang aspect of Kidney function. If the Kidney Yang energy is deficient then this will affect the Mingmen Fire, possibly resulting in general coldness, lethargy, impaired sexual function and, by damaging the Spleen, it can also lead to poor digestion.

  • The ears rely on Kidney Jing for nourishment, and if this is in any way lacking, then it can lead to tinnitis and deafness. As Jing diminishes with age, it is seen that older people often start to have problems with their hearing.

  • The hair also relies on Kidney Jing for nourishment.
If ... there is a deficiency, then this is liable to lead to dull, lifeless and brittle hair. It can also lead to premature greying and thinning.

  • The connection between will power and the emotion of fear is seen in the Kidneys. The Kidneys are seen as the root of life and as such our sense of personal power and will to succeed in life is rooted in healthy Kidney functioning. Consequently, poor Kidney functioning will lead to feelings of weakness and timidity ....

  • Kidney Yang Deficiency ... is typically characterized by feelings of cold. It is especially notable in the low back area and in the knees. ... There will be poor appetite and chronic diarrhea, which exacerbates the general feeling of tiredness and lassitude.

There can be infertility in women and impotence in men. ... edema - especially in the legs and ankles. ... The tongue will be pale and wet. ... The pulse will be deep and quite empty or weak.

  • The Kidneys have a role in strengthening and nourishing the bones and if the Kidney Qi is deficient, then there will be a tendency to aching, especially in the lower back around the Kidney area.

  • Contributory Causative Factors.
Kidney Yang deficiency may result from a chronic long-term illness [like mercury toxicity] ... too much sexual activity ... a relative concept dependent on age and general health.

  • If the Spleen (Meridian) has become chronically deficient over time ... (it) will ultimately damage the Kidney Yang energy.

  • It is important to note that the Lungs and the Kidneys (Meridians) have a mutual support function ....

  • Fear is a normal and adaptive human emotion, but when fear becomes chronic and when the perceived cause of the fear cannot be directly addressed then this is likely to lead to disharmony. The organ most at risk here is the Kidneys.

  Chinese System of Natural Cures

Henry C. Lu (1994):

  • Kidneys energy deficiency, which is a common syndrome, may give rise to low intelligence, slow movements, and soft bones.

  • The kidneys are closely associated with the liver.
Either can strengthen or weaken the other.
When both are suffering from yin deficiency .... will cause such symptoms as lumbago, dizziness, and being nasty and jumpy.

  Kidney Meridian related organs.

In TOUCH for HEALTH John F. Thie and Mary Marks associate the following organs on their Reference Chart:

1. KIDNEYS
Psoas (page 58) ---
nagging low back pains, kidney disturbances, inability to rest, foot problems, skin conditions ... and can aggravate heart conditions.
Drink large quantities of water, eat foods containing vitamin A and E ... and avoid coffee and strong beverages.

2. EYES and EARS
Upper Trapezius (page 50) ---
eye strain, blurred vision, hearing problems and ear infections ... trouble getting to sleep at night.
Oxalic acid contained in cranberries, coffee, chocolate, and purple fruits should be avoided. Increase intake of foods rich in vitamins A and B and also unsaturated fats.

3. ILEO-CECAL VALVE
Iliac-Psoas (poorly defined) ---
similar to Psoas, above

The Ileo-cecal valve is associated with the Kidney Meridian in the early Touch for Health work but almost no detail was given on it at that time.

  PERSONAL COMMENT.

MY EXPERIENCE with both Conventional Western (general and specialist as well as dental association and government sanctioned "professionals") and Alternative Eastern (Chinese health practitioners) details how BOTH were unable to quickly and effectively determine the basic singular influence which slowly and with certainty destroyed my health and endangered my life repeatedly for 6 years. This is a waste of my resources and those of the Ontario and other governments. It is also a waste of their talents.

HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars have been wasted by global economies during the past 100 years to prepare for and wage wars, to foster mind-numbing deceptive advertising, promote the use of foods and chemicals for unhealthy use, and to encourage the continuance of an irrelevant Space Exploration program. Less than 1/10th of 1% of that expenditure into dental research and product development would have resulted in a technical reliable means of detecting mercury amalgam filling integrity and health endangering levels of accumulation of mercury relative to human body mass. NOTHING was done. Nothing is planned.

WESTERN MEDICINE has demonstrated its inability to effectively and efficiently diagnose, understand, and treat chronic illnesses during the past 50 years --- allowing them to spread throughout the North American population to now affect the majority. The treatment of symptoms with drugs, technology, abuse of authority, denial, and money --- has failed.

EASTERN MEDICINE has a much longer historical development and productive use than modern Western approaches with the basics of Chinese herbalism and acupuncture dating back perhaps as far as 6000 years. It fundamentally assumes that excellent human health can resist all health destroying influences. It assumes that those influences are emotional (energy block trauma) and spiritual (attitude) in form. The practitioner seeks to strengthen the energy patterns (meridians) within the individual with the hope that such will release normally healthful emotional and spiritual energies. This approach likely applied to most of humanity until the industrial revolution began over 400 years ago.

INDUSTRY has influenced human health by reducing biological and geologically complex substances into concentrated forms termed chemicals, drugs, power, and toxins (anti- -cides). Depending upon the nation, these powerful substances have been allowed to pollute (unbalance) our human and global ecologies for anywhere from a few years to centuries in duration. Humanity has never exercised restraint on the control of such market power generators ... until after massive human and environmental damage has been done. Silver-Mercury dental amalgams is just another example in a long list.

BLIND MEDICINE:
For Western medicine practitioners, mercury and lead toxicity is a medical non-issue because they do not have the technology and the medical industry sanction to diagnose them and treat them. The fact that these toxicities, and many chronic illnesses, present a variety of symptoms which change over time and from individual to individual according to toxic accumulation vs body mass ratio --- completely disorients most practitioners and discourages most researchers from the slightest consideration of the issue. It is no mistake that good research on the dental amalgam issue originates from outside North America more than from within.

ACUPUNCTURISTS, from my limited experience, are also ineffective in diagnosing this form of "industrial nation" disease because of their reliance on a tradition that proved adequate for millennia. I have every respect for the acupuncturist whom I have gone to. Her use of acupuncture substantially increased the strength of my meridians and my ability to survive. Yet without an ability to diagnose the non-emotional and non-spiritual origin of the ill health, I was left ... and would continually have been in a health-death tightrope stance until I either replaced or removed the amalgams --- by co-incidence and financial opportunity --- or died.

THE EFFECTIVENESS of the acupuncture assisted me in exploring and defining a possible correlation between systemic meridian decline and mercury toxicity. Again, I consider my acupuncturist to be among the best of her trade. Yet acupuncture itself, as a health modality does not currently enable, consider, or encourage the diagnosis of industrial poisons.

ONE SOLUTION which affords both a simple, easy-to-learn, and inexpensive way of determining the presence of mercury and other toxins in the body of the patient is for all health enhancement practitioners to learn a muscle testing technique, or, afford themselves of the assistance of individuals who have become experienced and effective in its use. Touch-for-Health kinesiology, based on Eastern medical practices, pioneered in North America in the mid-1970s. I extended my awareness of it to diagnose myself and other hypersensitive persons from the late 1980s to more recent. The process-skill developed with use and graduated to a more spiritually-based approach using the same elementary principles.

WITH THE CULTURE-BIAS and the degree of commitment required to reach a Higher-Self Guided stage, I would expect no more than an interest in the elementary and physically direct form of muscle testing. That is adequate for this use. Within seconds, before proceeding with the usual norms of their discipline, practitioners could determine whether their prospective patient required dental amalgam replacement or removal BEFORE either conventional or alternative health care.
