[The more systemic your mutated Candida fungal infestation, the more alcohol that it will manufacture within your system and that your liver and other organs will have to adapt to. Candida will mutate faster to the degree that it is stressed by competition with other parasites and to the degree that it is stressed by other toxins, some of which may be taken to eliminate it.]

The liver is a marvelously sophisticated chemical laboratory, capable of carrying out thousands of chemical transformations on which the body depends. The liver produces some important chemicals from scratch and modifies others to allow the body to use them better. In addition, the liver neutralizes an enormous range of toxins. Without a functioning liver, you cannot live for long.

Unfortunately, a number of influences can severely damage the liver, of which alcohol is the most common. This powerful liver toxin harms the liver in three stages: alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, then cirrhosis. Although the first two stages of injury are usually reversible, cirrhosis is not. Generally, liver cirrhosis is a result of more than 10 years of heavy alcohol abuse.

Usually, alcoholic hepatitis is discovered through blood tests that detect levels of enzymes released from the liver. The blood levels of these enzymes—known by acronyms such as SGOT, SGPT, ALT, AST, and GGT—rise as damage to the liver (by any cause) progresses. ...

... The supplement SAMe has also shown some promise for preventing or treating alcoholic hepatitis, ....

The supplement TMG helps the body create its own SAMe and has also shown promise in very preliminary studies.

TMG (trimethylglycine) or Betaine is a methyl donor that supports healthy homocysteine metabolism and optimal liver function and health.* TMG helps maintain healthy fat metabolism in the liver and maintains SAMe (s-adenosylmethionine) metabolism, an important cofactor for healthy liver function.* Betaine helps maintain homocysteine levels within normal ranges.* TMG, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12 donate methyl groups for methylation reactions that convert homocysteine to the essential amino acid methionine.* Methylation is important to proper liver function, cellular replication, and detoxification reactions.

Impairment of methylation results in elevated levels of homocysteine, which can be a serious health risk. TMG supports circulation, helps to normalize amino acid metabolism, and breaks down fat for removal from the body, which protects the liver from fat deposits.* TMG Liquid provides 500 mg of TMG with Folic acid and Vitamin B12 for optimal effectiveness.

Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement, take ½ teaspoon of liquid one to three times daily.

8 oz plastic amber bottle

Servings per container: 94
Amount per 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml)

New Life-Extension Breakthrough: TMG-15
by John A. Mann
http://www.ceri.com/tmg.htm
Reprinted from The Journal of the MegaHealth Society, Vol. 1, No. 4, 1984.

Dimethylglycine (DMG), also known as pangamic acid or vitamin B-15, has been the subject of much controversy and confusion. The FDA has waged obsessive war against it.

The prestigious Merck Index contradicts itself about the identity of B-15, and in this confusion many manufacturers have foisted on the public several bogus products, including a potentially dangerous drug. The FDA did nothing about this but instead fought to ban DMG—the real B-15. They failed, but somehow persuaded the court to classify DMG as a food additive, even though it is never used as such, occurs naturally in food, and is produced by the body.

This classification gives the FDA power to restrict its use in combination with other substances. The B-15 of legitimate commerce, like that used in Soviet experiments, combined DMG with calcium gluconate. The FDA now forbids this combination as well as adding DMG to multi-ingredient formulas, but cannot restrict the sale of DMG as a single nutrient. Restriction as an additive is still unfortunate, since DMG’s effectiveness can be enhanced with certain support nutrients.

We have studied the B-15 problem and can now offer a solution: a substance that is vastly superior to DMG, is less expensive and gets around FDA restrictions. It is called trimethlglycine (TMG) and is identical to DMG, except that it contains three methyl groups instead of two.

When ingested, it is rapidly converted to DMG in the liver, giving all the benefits of B-15 and much more. It detoxifies homocysteine, a by product of methionine metabolism that is a powerful pro-oxidant and free-radical generator now known to be a leading cause of atherosclerosis.

If we get adequate B-6, much of the homocysteine we produce is converted to cystathione, and important antioxidant and free-radical deactivator. About half of our homocysteine is detoxified by this process. The other half is detoxified by a process called transmethylation. One way this happens is that 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which we make from folic acid, donates its methyl group to the homocysteine and thereby converts it to the essential amino acid methionine. Homocysteine is nothing more than methionine deprived of its methyl group.

Another way that homocysteine is converted to methionine is through transfer of the methyl group from trimethlglycine (TMG). We get an additional benefit from this because TMG, losing its methyl, becomes DMG. In brief, this simple action detoxifies homocysteine, recycles methionine and supplies B-15. Also, TMG costs less than DMG and is not restricted by the FDA from combination with other foods or supplements.

TMG is also called betaine.
We avoid this name because betaine is commonly sold in health food stores in it’s hydrochloride form as a hydrochloric acid supplement for people with weak digestive acids. This is not the desired form for the purposes described above. It is very acidic, must be taken only with meals and can otherwise cause severe gastric irritation.

The desired material is free-base betaine, which tastes mildly sweet and causes no untoward side effects. In order to make a clear distinction and avoid confusion, we call the acid supplement betaine HCl and the detoxifying nutrient of this discussion TMG.

During the past year (1983), our researchers have worked to develop a formulation that offered the ideal dosage range for TMG and its supporting nutrients. We have studied its effects on both athletes and sedentary persons and find it superior to ordinary B-15.

In the past B-15 has been used by leading sports figures, including Muhammad Ali and members of the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees, because it improves the use of oxygen and increases energy and stamina. We are finding TMG to be even more effective in this respect and believe that it is an ideal performance enhancer for Olympic contenders. We are currently testing it on triathalon competitors and will report results in future issue of JMS.

DiMethylGlycine (DMG) & TriMethylGlycine (TMG)
Supplement Information
AltHealth,
http://www.althealth.co.uk/services/info/supplements/dimethylglycine2.php

There is extensive literature on the safety and health benefits of DMG. Many studies have shown that DMG enhances the effectiveness of the immune system, improves the physical and athletic performance of humans and other animals (e.g. race horses) and has all in all a wide range of beneficial effects. It is very safe; no evidence has been seen of any toxic or significant adverse effects, with even taking massive intakes of DMG.

In 1965, two Russian investigators, M.G. Blumena and T.L. Belyakova, published a report showing considerable improvement in the speech of 12 of a group of 15 mentally handicapped children who had not been able to use speech to communicate. The children had been treated with a substance variously known as calcium pangamate, or pangamic acid, or "Vitamin B15" in addition to enriched vocabulary the children began to use simple sentences, their general mental state improved, and there was better concentration and interest in toys and games. Subsequent research has shown the essential factor in calcium pangamate to be DMG.

DMG is a metabolic enhancer, that is, it improves the function of several metabolic pathways, including those involving the immune system, the cardiovascular system, and muscle performance. Although excess DMG is converted by the body into energy, it appears that it's primary role in metabolism is to act as a key intermediary in the biological pathway that supplies the body with methyl groups. It maximizes the amount of energy produced for each molecule of oxygen consumed, and stimulates both branches of the immune system. DMG is an ergogenic nutrient that is, it helps produce energy and improve physical stamina.

DMG also acts as a detoxifying agent and antioxidant, protecting body cells from unwanted reactions caused by free radicals. Extensive animal and clinical tests have shown DMG to be a versatile normalizer of physiological functions.

The chemical structure of DMG is that of the amino acid glycine, in which two of the hydrogen atoms have been replaced by methyl groups.

Dr. Jerzy Meduski of the Nutritional Research Laboratory, at the University of Southern California's School of Medicine in Los Angeles, has studied the safety of DMG for more than five years. He concludes that DMG is perfectly safe when used as a dietary supplement. DMG is actually as safe as Vitamin C. ... DMG was found to produce a measured increase in athletic performance and a decrease in lactic acid, the compound that forms in muscles and causes tiredness.

Many parents have reported that within a few days of starting DMG with their autistic child, the child's behavior improved noticeably, better eye contact was seen, frustration tolerance increased, the child's speech improved, or more interest in speaking was observed. An article in the New England Journal of Medicine (October 1982) reported that a 22 year-old mentally retarded man who had 16 to 18 seizures per week on standard anticonvulsants, experienced only three seizures per week while on DMG. Two attempts to remove the DMG dramatically increased seizure frequency.

If you are just starting out we suggest giving the DMG for 2-3 weeks and only then to start taking B6 and Magnesium. So that one shouldn't confuse the results by simultaneously starting other vitamins, drugs, or other forms of treatment that might make it difficult to tease out the effect of DMG from the effects of other things tried. However, if the child is already taking Vitamin B6 and Magnesium or anything else that is helpful, there is no reason to stop taking them. The DMG is merely a high concentrated food. It may in fact improve the effectiveness of the B6.

TMG Trimethylglycine.
Vita Springs
http://www.vitasprings.com/tmg-trimethylglycine.html
Product description, tablets, 750 mg
1-800-518-3398

TMG (Trimethylglycine), also known as anhydrous betaine, is a naturally occurring phytonutrient found in a variety of plants and animals, with highest concentrations in beets, leafy green vegetables, and legumes. Since it can be difficult to eat enough of these foods to provide the body with sufficient methyl groups, supplementation may be necessary.

Studies have demonstrated that Trimethylglycine, folic acid, and B12 can reduce elevated levels of homocysteine to normal. The best methyl donor is TMG, because Trimethylglycine has 3 methyl groups. Furthermore, after losing its methyl group, TMG becomes DMG (dimethylglycine), a well recognized energy-boosting nutrient.

Liquid supplements do not need to be dissolved by the body, in fact, absorption of liquid supplements begins in the mouth. Tablets are estimated to offer between 10-40% absorption, while liquids are estimated to offer 80-90% or higher. (1996 Physicians Digest Page 1542) Also in the manufacturing process, tablets must be heated and some nutrients are subject to destruction when heated. Liquid Health Products are cold processed.

Because of the nature of liquids. Liquid supplements without preservatives would spoil before hitting the store shelves. Also, Aloe Vera juice of any quality requires preservatives to remain fresh. There is no way for Liquid Health to make their supplements without preservatives (they have consulted a number of biochemists in an attempt to do so) They use potassium benzoate which is the potassium salt, not the sodium salt, or benzoic acid.
