SCLERANTHUS relates to the principle of Poise and Balance.
Maintaining an inner balance in the presence of extremes of experience is a representation of a person in the Positive Scleranthus state. With their reliance upon Spiritual Guidance and the harmony of their Identity Factors in requesting it from their Higher Self, decisions in Ego (Personal Values) and SuperEgo (Social Values) conflicting situations are made quickly and confidently.
The simple, direct, humble and reverent approach to decision-making chosen by a person in the Positive Scleranthus state enables a power of concentration and determination to be achieved such that others are soothed by their calm confidence.
Indecisiveness and extremes of emotional expression are indicators of a person in the Negative Scleranthus state as first one's Ego tries to impose its desires, and then, one's SuperEgo attempts to dictate it's own and often contradictory solution. This devotion to the material side of life without the harmony of the identity factors which are responsibile directly for involvement in the physical expression of life -- results in a continual changing of one's intentions, assessments, and plans.
Acknowledging the stability of the mentoring influence of Spiritual Guidance received by one's Higher Self, the person in the Positive Scleranthus state remains calm, open-minded, and aggressively involved. Maintaining and enlarging one's awareness of matters which frustrate and anger oneself, this person may ask advice from others with the hope that any answer might reveal aspects and opportunities not yet aware to oneself. This limits one's obsessive rational conflict between one's Ego and SuperEgo while permiting a focus on finding a current solution which is best for as many as people who are relevantly included in the final decision.
The presence of strong yet immature Identity perspectives is the basis for the wastefulness and self sabotaging nature of the Negative Scleranthus state. Unwilling to risk a loss of acceptance by either an inner or outer influencing source, no decision is made. Opportunities are lost, support is withdrawn, one appears to be insincere, and, the person takes on the reputation of being weak willed. This is the result of a lack of commitment to any unified standard plus an identification too closely with both each of one's own Ego and SuperEgo plus those of other persons assumed to be potentially powerful to oneself.
To advance to a state of Positive Scleranthus energy, one must be aware that only by taking responsibility for one's decisions in the present will one be able to benefit from them in the future. Inevitably, errors will be made and other participants will fall into conflict with one's choices from time to time. Until one recognizes that there will always be rationalizations to justify the desires of every Identity factor as well as every friend and stranger, one may not be able to become self-directed. Emotional and physical extremes of symptoms may result from such projections and sympathies.
Symptoms of a negative Scleranthus state include alternating expressions of travel sickness and activity, constipation and diarrhea, feeling too hot and then becoming too cold, in agreement originally and then quickly followed by disagreement, exctasy and then depression, distrust of self and then distrust of others. Only by finding a contributing party which can and does take a position of a compassionate yet consistent and firm mentor, will the constant turmoil be ended.
Where a conflict of and a lack of leadership between parents exists, a child may continually seek to please both of them plus himself. An inability to perceive identity boundaries and the values and limits attending each results in an expectation of all from all and a receipt of little from anyone. A strong Ego may elect to deny the leadership of any and assume a role of manipulation for the sake of control and the promise of harmony. The deception of agreement only for the benefit of oneself may come to be acknowledged as an expression of one's selfishness and a promotion of distrust.
